Using a Car Payment Calculator

Car Payment Calculator Video

Having a car is a necessity for most people in the modern world  Depending on the area, some folks can't rely on public transportation.  People have to go to work and school, drive the kids to various activities, go out to movies or social functions, all on their own unique schedule that doesn't always fit in with the bus or train time tables.  Some people are afraid to use the bus or train in the evening.  End of story, get a car.  To avoid the pitfall of buying more can then they can afford, people often turn to a car payment calculator to estimate how the car fits into their budget.

These calculators are pretty simple.  They're all over the Internet on sites like Yahoo autos.  The calculators spit out monthly payment after all the variables such as price and interest rate are entered.  Some of them even add in the expected insurance costs, but if the one you choose doesn't make sure to keep that cost in mind.  Make sure to account for all the costs of a car before buying it.  That includes elements like cost to store or garage fees, of course the insurance, maintenance and more.  Don't forget the price of fuel.

Accidents are something many people fail to consider.  Sure, there's insurance, but insurance always has a deductible.  Is your deductible affordable?  Can you take the increased monthly payment after an accident?  Don't forget the fees associated with registration and emissions.  Although all vehicles share this, it's part of the overall cost.

Car buyers too often rely only on monthly payment.  The salesman can “put you behind the wheel” for whatever you can pay each month  That sounds great.  But something is missing.  We're talking the bottom line price.  Nothing can be done until the buyer has the price.  Even with other costs factored in, monthly payment gives an incomplete picture.  The price must be known before the car is purchased.

A car payment calculator is a great tool to help determine if a car fits into the budget.  But it's only one tool that offers only some of the important financial information needed for a car purchase.  Make the purchase only after examining all the details.
